Directly operated boutiques hold retail price all year. There are two internal markdown windows (late June, late December) and they are quiet, short and limited to carryover shoes, leather goods with damaged boxes and seasonal ready-to-wear.

The tactic that works

Ask the sales associate about the private sale list and about tax-free shipping to another state — on a four-figure ticket the tax line saves more than any discount the store will offer.
